I used to have an apt in altinkum and was a regular on this site,i sold it and its contents about 5-6 years ago at a loss just to get rid, best thing I ever did as was being robbed left right and centre being charged twice for electric connections, people using apt when we not their as left keys with agents for renting but they would say no one their when their was, as our friend kept an eye on coming and goings.this was in altinkum, didim, even when we sold it they ripped off their own Turkish people by trying to stop me from talking to them on the sale as they charged them more than I sold for.would not ever buy their again,in fact it put me off buying anywhere abroad.

This happens all over the world. Seen it myself many a time in Alanya. I personally know of it in Spain and Greece etc. Par for the course I reckon. Personally I gave my neighbours permission to use it for their family because I knew they would anyway. At least I know the place has life going on around and in it so I don't worry about it being all on its own. Luckily it is just their family that use it. They don't rent it out like some have experienced. For me it's like having good security because they are right next door.

If you have sold your apartment quite a while ago and it was the best thing you ever did, why bother to put a post on here at all? Why not leave well alone, and leave those of us who still own property in Turkey to enjoy ourselves. What is right for one person, may not be so for others. No need to gloat

I dont think they are gloating, that was their experience and it can go a long way towards creating an awareness for others especially with the start of a new season just around the corner. For those that still enjoy Turkish life and their property I dont think they will be put off by one persons bad experience.
Many have sold and moved on but still post on here

Strange first post though. You were a regular on here, what as a member?,why wait 5 or 6 years to come on and complain about it.
Although your story is so true of the life in the Emlaks of Turkey. If one could take the time to go through TLF and the stories thereof, one could write a very long book and place it in the Horror section of the bookshop.

It always surprises me that people are more trusting with things in Turkey than in the UK. Would you leave the keys to an apartment with someone who you do not know well in the UK? I wouldn't, but I wouldn't in Turkey either.

not gloating, just letting them know I am still here as the agents are still trading and will be reading this, names will be forwarded soon, its just a warning for others to be aware.

It amazes me that people do things like trust strangers and do things you would never do in the UK .
What amazes me is the complete lack of safety nets for people who have put their trust in others. Many times that trust has been prior legally documented either by/with a lawyer, estate agent or a friend.
I would put money on it that most on here could've been bounced over property in Turkey..........yes most got their Tapus but at any given time the deal could've been a bad one.

There by the Grace of God & even he could've lost out in Turkey.

This can also be a problem when we have cleaners in the apartment prior to arrival, then there is no sign of any disturbance , unlike if there were no cleaner it would be easy to determine if anyone had been staying in there, but fortunately we have people around who would soon let us know if anyone was saying in anybodies apartment.

The nature of your post is valid on here, its a reminder, its a warning & could well be a money saver to one, some or many people.

We have witnessed here in the UK what happens when people keep quiet, it continues & gets even worse.
Lets be clear on a couple of things, most people who buy in Turkey get what they paid for BUT the scams still continue today.

People in glass houses and all that.
Dee24 wasn't judging or insulting, unlike yourself.
I gather you won't be naming and shaming then!.
